City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) hosted the official naming and unveiling ceremony for the Haoxue Library on 28 September 2026, sponsored by Guangdong Great River Group Co.Ltd. The ceremony officially inaugurates the renamed library, marking a significant milestone for the University's development and its philanthropic collaboration with local enterprises. 

ZHENG Guohong, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Dongguan Municipal People’s Congress, Dr. LIN Haichuan, Chairman of Guangdong Great River Group Co.Ltd., his family members and group representatives, as well as Dr CHEN Xiezhong, Chairman of Hangzhou Qianda Education Technology Co., Ltd., attended the ceremony. Professor LU Chun, Executive President and Vice-Chairman of the Education Foundation of CityUHK (Dongguan), Professor LI Juan Julie, Vice President (Academic), Professor CHIU Chi Yue, Vice President (Administration), and ZHAO Yi, Secretary of the Party Unit of CityUHK (Dongguan) and Chairman of the Education Foundation, together with faculty and student representatives, witnessed the milestone event. The ceremony was hosted by YIN Liping, Director of Development and Alumni Office and Secretary-General of the Education Foundation.

A leading comprehensive energy and chemical enterprise rooted in Dongguan with over 30 years of development, Guangdong Great River Group Co.Ltd. has long upheld its corporate mission of delivering social value while pursuing industrial growth. As the first and largest donor to CityUHK (Dongguan) since its establishment, the Group has consistently supported the university’s construction and development.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Dr LIN Haichuan, an alumus of CityUHK, expressed sincere gratitude for his alma mater's cultivation. Together with his wife PAN Junling, he launched the library naming donation through the GR Haoshan Charity Fund, embodying the philanthropic vision of "Profound learning lifts the soul to light; Sublime generosity graces Dongguan's sight".

He noted that the naming recognises dedication to education and inspires wider societal support for higher education. He encouraged students to read extensively, cultivate integrity and innovative thinking, and grow into outstanding talents. The group will continue its public welfare endeavours, deepen university-enterprise cooperation, and contribute to the high-quality development of local higher education.

ZHAO Yi extended heartfelt thanks to Dr LIN Haichuan, PAN Junling and the Group for their generous support. He recalled that the group’s donation in 2024 marked the first social donation and the founding capital of the Education Foundation of CityUHK (Dongguan). He stated that the foundation will manage all donations in a standardised, transparent and compliant manner to support educational development. He urged students to pass on the spirit of kindness, wishing the Haoxue Library a perpetual presence of books and knowledge to accompany students on their academic journeys.

Professor LU Chun remarked that libraries are the intellectual heart of a university, and the architecturally distinctive Haoxue Library serves as a core campus landmark. The Group’s donation supports campus infrastructure construction and funds student scholarships. He encouraged students to pursue knowledge diligently, explore boldly and inherit the philanthropic spirit after achieving academic success. 

The official launch of the Haoxue Library marks a new chapter for CityUHK (Dongguan) in deepening university-enterprise cooperation and mobilising social resources for education.

Moving forward, the University will leverage this opportunity to advance the work of its Education Foundation, strengthen ties with all sectors of society, and foster a better teaching and research environment for faculty and students.
